Ville Andersson – Das weiße Nichts?

Ville Andersson ist 1986 in der nah der russischen Grenze im Süden Finnlands gelegenen Stadt Loviisa geboren. 2007 bis 2012 besuchte er die Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki und lebt und arbeitet nun nach wie vor in der Hauptstadt Finnlands. Seine Arbeiten wurden 2015 mit dem Young Artist of the Year-Award honoriert, sind in hochkarätigen Sammlungen finnischer Museen (u.a. Tampere Art Museum und Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum) vertreten und werden in internationalen Solo- wie Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt.

Ville Andersson lässt sich kaum in ein System einordnen, das Künstler nach der Wahl ihrer Medien kategorisiert. Wollte man ihm einen Stempel aufdrücken, wäre es wohl der des Tausendsassas. Er ist so experimentierfreudig wie erfahren im Umgang mit vielerlei Techniken und Medien und sein Werk bietet eine breite Varianz an Materialien, denen KUUSI mit einer Auswahl unterschiedlichster Arbeiten gerecht werden möchte.

Seinen Durchbruch feierte Ville Andersson mit traumähnlich inszenierten Fotografien (siehe Transformation, 2011), mittels derer das Unbewusste, das Gewöhnliche übersteigende Transzendentale in den Fokus des Betrachters rückt. Der Künstler versteht die Fotografie nicht als reine Repräsentation; vielmehr funktioniere sie wie ein „Mediator zwischen einem Betendem und dessen Hoffnung“.

Auffallend ist die den meisten anderen gezeigten Werken gemeine Schwarz-Weiß-Monochromie. Was auf den ersten Blick als eine Reduktion erscheint, beschreibt Ville Andersson als deren Gegenteil. Weiß-Sein ist hier ein Potential. Ein Potential, dass das Füllen der vermeintlichen Leere durch ein Umherstreifen der Imagination erlaubt. Wie die pythagoreische Theorie der omnipräsenten Sphärenharmonien, ist auch Weiß als simultane Anwesenheit allen farbigen Lichts allgegenwärtig und zugleich latent. Durch die gezielte Konfrontation des Bildrezipienten mit dem Weiß-Sein der Kunstwerke, entfremdet Ville Andersson das Gewöhnliche und schärft durch die Expressivität des weißen Vakuums Sehsinn und Bewusstsein neu.

Ville Andersson – The white Nothing?

Ville Andersson was born in 1986 in Loviisa, a town close to the Russian border in Southern Finland. From 2007 until 2012 he attended the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki and still lives and works in Finland’s capital. In 2015 his works were rewarded with the Young Artist of the Year award, they are in top-class collections in Finnish museums (e.g. Tampere Art Museum and Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova museum) and are displayed in international solo and group exhibitions.

It is difficult to fit Villa Andersson into a system which categorises the artist according to their choice of media. If one wanted to class him, it would be multi-talent. He is so adventurous and experienced in the use of many techniques and media and his works offer a wide variety in materials; KUUSI shows a selection of his most different works.

His breakthrough came with dreamlike produced photographs (see Transformation, 2011) in which the unknown moves into the spectator’s focus, overcoming the usual transcendental. The artist does not see photography as a real representation; it is more a “Mediator between a person praying and his hope”.

It is remarkable that the works displayed, like most other pieces, are a common black and white monotony. What at first sight looks like a reproduction is for Ville Andersson exactly the opposite. To be white is here a potential. A potential that allows the roaming imagination to fill the alleged void. Just like Pythagoras’s theory of the omnipresent harmony of the spheres, white is as simultaneous presence of all coloured lights ubiquitous and at the same time latent. With the specific confrontation with the being-white artworks for the spectator, Ville Andersson alienates the usual and with the expressivity of the white vacuum focuses the visual sense and awareness anew.
